00 If you use an iPad, Apple just gave you a pretty big gift, and it's called iPadOS 27. This is the update that Apple announced at their big developer event just a week ago, and it's full of things that are going to make your iPad easier, smarter, and honestly, a lot more fun to use. Today, I walk you through seven specific features that I think iPad users are really going to love. >> [music] >> Hi, my name is Rich, and I make easy-to-follow videos on how to use your iPhone and iPad, you know, without going nuts. And today's video is no exception. Like the last couple of videos I've made, this is all show and tell. I'm running developer beta one of iPadOS 27 on my iPad. Well, what does that mean? It means it's an early release of the

45 iPad software not available to the public. So, this isn't something you can update to today. However, public betas will probably be available in a few weeks if you're brave enough to give it a go. If not, the public release should be sometime around in September, which will be here in about 15 minutes. In other words, it'll be here quickly. So, just sit back and take in a few of these new features. iPadOS 27 has a slew of new features, fixes, and general polish. And while I can't begin to cover all of them in a single video, I do want to show you seven features that are helpful right out of the gate. Now, keep in mind some of these features may or may not work. This is a beta release, but either way, you'll get to see what happens. And whether the feature works or not, you can rest assured it should be good to go by the time September rolls around. So,

33 in today's video, I'm going to show you the new Spotlight search with Siri AI, three new features added to the Photos app, the new Siri app and a glimpse at how it works, AirDrop improvements, which is really cool, menu bar fix, which is super cool, password repair magic, and it is magic, and then how to create your own wallpapers. Okay, let's get started. First thing I want to talk to you about is just the new Siri Spotlight search. If you'll notice you used to sort of drag down from the middle and you would get um the lock screen. You don't do that anymore. You get [snorts] Siri when you do that. If you want to get to your lock screen, you just slide over here and that takes you to the lock screen. But now Siri

18 comes down from the middle and what's weird, you get this kind of weird rain drop or something and finally it breaks loose and you get Siri right there. When you do open Siri up, you can open apps, you know, let's say notes. Op, it I mistyped but it knew I wanted notes so, you know, you get into your notes that way. You can also ask Siri some general knowledge questions. If you just tap here, I'm going to uh ask her with my voice. When was the Gilded Age? >> The Gilded Age was a period in US history that generally spanned from the 1870s to about 1900.

06 >> And just like that, you can get an answer from Siri. And I found myself dictating questions in rather than typing them. That's been really handy. I think what's really cool about the new Siri is that it is contextually aware. So Siri is aware of everything that you have on your iPad and that makes Siri so much more handy. Let me show you what I mean. Do I have any Apple notes related to YouTube videos? >> I found several notes related to YouTube videos, including scripts and planning documents for your content. >> Is that all the notes?

54 >> No. there are more. I found at least 10 notes related to YouTube videos, and the list is still truncated, which means you likely have even more stored in your account. >> How handy is that? I can just literally ask her about a note, and she can find everything that's already there. That's definitely new and wasn't available in earlier versions. Next, I want to talk to you about the Siri app. So, I was just showing you Siri by pulling down this way and getting Siri to come up. But, there's an actual new Siri app, and it keeps track of all of your conversations and remembers them. So, I'm going to open up the Siri app. And you'll see that over here on the left, these are conversations I've had before. But, you'll see the Apple Notes conversation that I had right there, and if I tap on it, you see the information

41 here. Here's the Gilded Age answer that uh she just supplied to me. But, you can do things when you're in here, too. So, I'm going to go back to the Apple Notes uh conversation that I had. And I'm just going to tap on the microphone and ask her to do something for me. Create a new note with a list of all of the YouTube video titles. I've created a new note titled YouTube video titles with a list of 18 videos found in your notes. And now, if I just go over to the Notes app, let's see if it's in here. Here we go.

27 YouTube video titles. And she's made a list, just like I asked her to do. Now, I could have gone and done that and typed that all up just like that, but that was done in just a matter of a few seconds. That is just amazing. And there's so much more that you can do with the Siri app with all of these conversations. You can continue conversations. I could just continue asking her more and more about these video titles. Um and she would give me an answer. Are there any videos related to widgets? >> Yes, I found several notes for YouTube videos related to widgets. iPad widgets explained a script covering how to add,

12 customize and >> So, you can just get so much information within that Siri app. And when this comes out in the fall, I think you're going to love that. Next thing I want to show you is just some new features in the photos app. And these are really interesting features. It's not something that I think I would have thought of, but now that I see them, I really like them. Let me show you what they are. So, I'm going to open the photos app. And I'll go to favorites. And [snorts] I'll choose this picture of Cooper. And one of the things you can do is if you have an Apple Pencil, you can tap and hold, and then you get look up. And if I look up, you can see that it sees that it's a

58 golden retriever, and it gives me all the information. So, Siri is now able to actually look at your um photos and tell what they are and give you information about them. Before, Siri could do that kind of with plants and flowers and things like that, but now Siri can do that with anything. That's one of the new features in the photos app. Now, another new feature is if I go to edit and I just tap this little icon up here, and I go down to tools right here, I can tap on reframe. And now it's sort of looking at the image. Sometimes you might wish you had been in a different spot when you took

43 the picture if you maybe you're too far to the right or too far to the left or maybe you should have been higher maybe a little bit lower. Now you can actually with reframing fix that. So now watch as I drag Cooper around. See, I can make it so I'm looking at him head-on or maybe I'm looking down a little more or maybe even to the left or to the right. You can sort of reframe that image just a little bit to get a different perspective and to fix it the way you want it to be. And that's just an incredibly powerful way to fix a photo that just needed a little bit of tweaking. Another thing you can do is extend the photo. So what that means is you can actually enlarge it and it'll create whatever it thinks the scene is. So let

29 me show you what that is. I'm going to just tap on extend. Now it's going to say, you know, I'm going to drag this out a little bit. Maybe drag this out a little bit so that I can see more of what's around Cooper and then I'm going to tap on extend. And this can take a minute for it to do it. I've got an M3 iPad Air here. And just like that, it's created actually correct information. That's what's in my yard and of course that's what Cooper would have looked like if I had backed out and hadn't zoomed in quite so much. So it will actually create more area around your photograph with the extend feature. Really, really handy

16 if you'd wish that you had done something a little bit different when you took the shot. Next thing I want to show you is just AirDrop improvements. You know, AirDrop is the ability to take something on your iPad or your iPhone and then send it to somebody else's iPad or iPhone who are nearby. And that's a great concept, but what I found was that I would try to AirDrop a photo to someone and it wouldn't find my friend's phone even though they're 3 ft away from me or it doesn't find my wife's phone or something like that and then I end up trying to send it via messages or or uh email or something like that and I just skip AirDrop. I'm going to drag my iPhone in right here. We'll go back to photos. We'll go back to Cooper here. And I'm going to tap up here.

03 And I'm going to just tap AirDrop. And it immediately sees my iPhone 17 right there and if I tap on that and it doesn't work. Well, that's something that they're going to have to fix. It was working when I tested it out before making this video, but I guess it's a little glitchy right now and that's what I mean by sometimes these things work and sometimes they don't. It did recognize my phone right away though, so that's important. So hopefully soon that'll be fixed and AirDrop will be working. The next thing I want to show you is just sort of a quality of life improvement. If you open an app, say like reminders here,

51 and you they now have the word reminders up here at the top and if you tap on it, you can get the menu bar right there. Before you'd have to sort of pull down and that was a bit of a problem because you know, you maybe start to get to the lock screen or something like that. There were sort of some collisions going on. Now you can tap reminders and it just shows up there. That's handy, but that's not the best way to do it. Again, if I open reminders, you'll see that it's it didn't stay open even though I had tapped on it. But now there is a way to have the menu bar stay open and if I tap on settings, and I go to multitasking and gestures.

36 And I go to automatically show and hide menu bar. And if you'll notice, there's no menu bar up here, but if I turn this off, the menu bar automatically shows up, and it's going to stay on, which is what I want. I want that menu bar always present. So now, if I close out of settings, and I open reminders, the menu bar shows up. Same thing with See the menu bar with um mail. Same thing with messages. And that's just a handy little setting that you can change uh that will always allow the menu bar to show up. That's a good quality of life improvement. Next

22 thing I want to show you is the password manager. Now, you may not know this, but there's a password app on your iPad, and it keeps track of all of your passwords, and it's pretty powerful little application, and they've just made it much, much better. So I'm going to open up the passwords app. It wants me to use Touch ID. So this is a list of all of my passwords here. There's 282 passwords. I have no idea how I got 282 passwords. I guess I signed up for stuff over time. But if you'll notice, I'm going to tap on security, and it says there are 100 and 69 issues here, but there are 21 passwords that have been compromised. In the past, what you'd have to do is

08 tap on each one of these, log in to each individual account, and change your password. Very time-consuming. Now, the password app will just do that for you. If you tap on here's automatically fix 21 passwords, tap on get started, and then you just tap on fix 21 passwords and it will actually go out, log in to each one, change the password and come back one at a time. I'm not going to go ahead and tap on fix 21 passwords cuz we'd be here for a while. But you get the idea and that is that it will go in and take care of all of this and keep in mind it'll create a very strong password for you. You don't need to know the password, it's saved here in the passwords app. So going forward,

55 you're going to be able to just clean up all of these bad passwords in just one quick pass and I think that's a really good improvement for iPadOS 27. You know, one of the things that people always ask me is Rich, where did you get that wallpaper? I love that wallpaper on your iPhone or your iPad. You know, most of the time I get my wallpapers off the internet like everybody else. I just find them and download them or make a copy or something like that and that's what you you get. But now you can create your own wallpaper. If you go into image playground and this is the icon for image playground. And I'm going to tap the plus up here. And I'm going to say

40 create colorful wallpaper. And I'm going to make sure that it's in landscape mode. And now image playground will create a wallpaper that you can actually use on your iPad. Huh, just like that. So if you wanted that kind of wallpaper, you could do it. That's pretty cool. Sometimes it doesn't create exactly what you're looking for. I wasn't really looking for an iPhone, but it created that. But the idea is you can go into image playground and create any kind of wallpaper you want and then use that as the wallpaper on your iPad.

26 I'm just going to create a handful of wallpapers that I like. That's pretty cool. So, what do you think of the new iPad OS 27? These features are going to be useful, at least for the way I use my iPad. Let me know in the comments below what you think. Okay. That's it for today. Thanks so much for watching and as always, I'll see you in the next video.
