  • Allah's dominance and the submission of all creation
  • The importance of fearing and obeying Allah
  • The concept of one God and the rejection of associating others with Him
  • Human tendency to turn to Allah in hardship and forget Him in ease

Allah's Dominance and Submission of Creation

The discussion begins by establishing that only Allah deserves worship, highlighting signs of His dominance. It references a verse discussing how the shadows of everything Allah has created incline to the right and the left, submitting to Him in humility. This is presented as an analysis of Allah's absolute dominance, noting that He has subjugated everything to His will, with all creation in submission, willingly or unwillingly. The movement of shadows, affected by the sun's movement and the earth's rotation, demonstrates Allah's power and the intricate system He has established.

Prostration and Submission to Allah

The talk explains the concept of "sujud" (prostration) as a form of submission to Allah. It distinguishes between the physical prostration of a Muslim and the absolute submission of all things, including inanimate objects, to Allah's command. The inability of creation to contradict Allah's order, such as the sun stopping or the earth ceasing to spin, demonstrates His infinite power and authority. The angels, as honoured servants of Allah, prostrate to Him without arrogance, fearing their Lord and obeying His commands.

The Oneness of God and the Rejection of Multiple Gods

The discussion addresses the concept of "ilahayn," warning against taking two gods, as there is only one God, Allah. It explains that forcing things to be divine when they are not is wrong, as only Allah is divine. The talk presents arguments against the existence of multiple gods, highlighting the qualities of divinity, such as being uncreated, independent, and perfect. It uses the example of conflicting wills between multiple gods to illustrate the impossibility of their existence.

Blessings from Allah and Human Ingratitude

The talk emphasises that all blessings come from Allah, and in times of hardship, people cry out to Him for help. It questions why people would fear or worship others besides Allah when He is the source of all blessings and the one to whom they turn in times of need. The discussion highlights the human tendency to forget Allah and associate others with Him as soon as hardship is removed, despite enjoying His blessings. This is described as a betrayal of the Lord who created them and provides for them.

0:08 My dear friends, Allah bless you all. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Let's continue with our look at fat. Alhamdulillah. Alhamdulillah.

1:00 So, alhamdulillah, Allah has blessed us with the lookout spirit up until this point. And so today we will uh after establishing that only Allah deserves worship and that the revelation and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the Quran that he has brought are both true. Allah subhana wa ta'ala now highlights you know other signs of his dominance that only he deserves worship. So he says Have you not considered how the shadows

1:45 of everything Allah has created inclined to the right and the left as the sun moves totally submitting to Allah in all humility. So this is an analysis of the Allah's absolute dominance. Allah is the creator. Allah has subjugated everything to his will. Uh so everyone's in submission to Allah and everyone is in submission to Allah. Everything is in submission to Allah um unwillingly. Right? I mean the fact that you can't jump three miles into the sky. Allah has put limits on the human body. Allah has put limits on the human mind and Allah subhanana wa ta'ala has uh subjugated us in this way. So in in in some ways

2:31 everyone is submitting to Allah down to their the very cells and the atoms in the in their body and everything and then there's the willing submission that he wants from us which is why the the revelation has been sent and why the prophets come to us. So he subhanahu wa ta'ala uh now points uh to the shadows of everything. So, and and Abu S says it seems like he's focusing more on the the inanimate objects such as the mountains and the trees and everything and how their shadows move. And so, it's talking about going from the left to the right. And so the amas say that because the sun rises in the east uh the shadows of everything incline you know in the direction of the

3:19 west but as the earth turns and the sun appears to set in the west after midday the shadows start going in that direction and so the fact that a he's created shadows and how light blocks light is blocked and then it leaves this effect and that it's not just something static it changes with the movement of the light source. And how this light source is even moving. You know, the sun is moving and how it seems and what the reality is. The earth is, you know, spinning on it on its axis and it's um moving um uh on its axis as it's moving around the sun as well. And the shadows are affected and the shadows seem to elongate and then to diminish in size.

4:04 And all of this is showing Allah's power. Look at the whole earth and look at how everything the entire system has been set up and how it affects the shadows and how from the shadows we can deduce all of this. What a tremendous sign of Allahawel and um so he he describes it as as everything being in in submission to him to him. So he says, "Have they not considered how the shadows of everything especially the the the static things such as trees and animals as Abu says even though the moving things like animals and humans you know still give this understanding and you can deduce it but it's not as clear as it is from looking at static things. You know how the shadows of everything Allah has created incline to

4:50 the right and to the left as the sun moves. totally submitting to Allah in all humility humility. And we look at this, even this word, it's it's a plural, but it's a plural that's used for rational uh things, not inanimate things. And it's it's almost like they're acting in submission the way things would. The root word fate means to return or to recede. And it's also used to describe fate of the world. You know the the sunshine when it um casts a shadow on something after midday uh after the sun reaches its zenith that shadow is classed as called the fate and from which means to be low and a base

5:37 and humbled and you know before so in some context it can also apply to humiliation but here it means just complete deference and submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and his absolute will. So it says so is this and it is generally used for um inanimate things although you can use it for animate things with certain purposes but inanimate things why this is what reasoning of used he said all the things that Allah has created their shadows move and recede they incline to the left and the right and you know these were the general indicative directions But you know the shadows move in every direction right? This movement

6:22 of shadows is understood as a form of prostration to Allah because not a literal prostration but as a form of surrender and submission to Allah. So let's just look at the term sujud. So sujud is of two types. One is the sujud of a Muslim who puts his you know forehead on the ground and that's a kind sign of willing active submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala where a person places the noblest part of their body on the lowest part of the ground and says subhan Allah flawless is my lord the most high and it's a display of submission and surrender and then there's other type of sujud which is used a lot in the in the Arabic language and the Quran which is to talk about

7:07 absolute submission which you know things that don't have a forehead like the sun for example when it works and it moves and it acts in accordance to the laws Allah has created and you know decreed for it then it's in submission to allahel so that's how it's understood the second is is the sujud of all things including inanimate objects which are in complete submission to Allah's command And so that's basically how he puts it that Allah subhana t has created everything. It's in uh an order. It's in a particular way of being and it does not contradict that. It cannot contradict that. The sun can't just stop shining. And you know

7:55 the earth doesn't just stop spinning. You know it's it's the way Allah has created everything. And it's a tremendous display of his infinite power and supreme authority. This shows he is the one who deserves to worship. No one else, nothing else. The Arabs even they didn't say that anything else created the world. They recognized this was Allahel. So it's him. And then he says, "So first this is a verse of prostration. If you recite it or if you hear it live, um you have to do a prostration in recordings in the school.

8:42 You don't have to do a prostration." It says, "And to Allah alone bows in submission whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth of living creatures as do the angels who are not too proud to do so." So here we've got and to Allah prostrate. It's a very interesting to Allah prostrates all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. The ma is used again same which has a meaning of generality. So every single thing in the heavens and every single thing in the earth. So in the heavens there are the angels and you know the the souls and all the other things that we don't even know of Allah has created them. They're all in submission uh to Allah subhana tala and everything on earth. There's the

9:27 unwilling type of submission uh and then there's the willing active submission which is what the believers do and and everyone else is in is in rebellion regarding that. And you know this is why the revelation has been sent to end that rebellion. So mean so da from da indicates something that just hops along moves along not hops along but just moves the small steps along. Uh you describe it like say the movement of a caterpillar or something like that walking with small steps. And so Allah subhanaa tala uses it to describe any living thing, any living thing uh on earth. And so he says they're all in submission and frustration to him alone.

10:14 So the frustration of animals is them acting like they're meant to do. Cows going eating grass, chewing the grass, you know, um producing milk and everything else acting as they are uh as as they're meant to to. Uh and then he says then there's the angels who malika so the angels are honored and special servants of allahel the number is beyond our account you know trillions upon trillions upon trillions we we don't even know right and since the Arabs used to worship them Allah now clarifies that they don't deserve worship because they're in prostration to him they themselves are worshiping and submitting to allahel and they're not arrogant Nor do they pretend to be greater than they

11:00 are to try and be greater than you are. Rather they humble themselves before Allah. And this shows that their submission and their prostration is real. It's it's not feigned because you know someone could pretend to prostrate like the hypocrites in the time of the prophet sallallah.aii wasallam. But um it's talking about their internal state. Someone could not prostrate because they think I'm too good to prostrate. Why should I prostrate like Ell did? And someone could prostrate but internally have that rebellion and so I don't really I wouldn't prostrate willingly but I've got no choice and you know because they want to stay safe in some regard or something. So Allah subhana wa ta'ala highlights this

11:46 that and they'd have no arrogance and no resistance whatsoever. They're in absolute complete surrender to their creator. And why? Because he deserves it. It's fitting for them to worship him. They know more about him than you know than we do. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And that, you know, they've seen more wonders of his creation than we have. You know, they're in the skies in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh sky. And they see his perfection at work, you know, like what he's created. And uh so they they recognize that he deserves worship. So they don't show even the slightest amount of arrogance. So then he

12:34 says and they fear their lord above them and do whatever they are commanded. There's that little sign of the mah the prayer you know for you to remind you to do sag. And so they fear present tense verb again and again constant state they fear their loving lord. So the fear of allahel fear is not always a byproduct of danger. Fear is sometimes it's it's a fear of loss like someone you love to lose that that love. It's a fear um you know it's a fear of you know you have blessings in your life a fear that they'll be taken away

13:19 right and so fear can come from many avenues and fear in Islam there's a positive element to it fear keeps you in line fear of the hellfire is meant to keep humanity in line and so he says they fear their loving lord lest his favor you know lest he takes his favor away but despite him being so loving and kind and favorable, he deserves a fear, right? Because of who he is and his other majestic qualities. And then he, you know, he says they fear him. They fear him as they should. And then literally means just above them, right? Just above them, but he's not above them physically because Allah is not in a place. He created all places.

14:05 But it refers to their perception of his greatness and majesty. There you are. It refers to his uh you know their perception of his greatness and majesty that as though it towers above them it's just above them and also the description of above is used to describe something totally overwhelming and dominating is so just overwhelming you can't even look up right and that's why even descriptions of punishment uh use this you know motif and uh so it's they they have this really strong awareness of the grandeur and the greatness and the majesty of Allah subhana wa tala and they feel awe and fear because of it and and and so that's what's being expressed.

14:52 It's not talking about a physical direction and it's like someone who's too afraid to look up because of what is above them inspires a fear. They're in awe of the majest and grandeur of Allahel and they continue to do present tense anything and everything indicates generality. So everything they are commanded again and again and again and again never disobeying never ever disobeying. So they act in complete submission and surrender remaining in full obedience to Allahawel. Why? because they know him uh and they know he deserves this uh obedience, he deserves to be feared, he deserves to be loved, he deserves to be obeyed. That's who they are. And then

15:39 Allah subhana t after negating you know uh you know worshiing others besides him and showing that everything is in complete submission to him he says what a beautiful verse and uh so Allah has said do not take two gods there is only one god so be in awe of me alone. Okay. So, um what happens is Allah says uh so let's look at this word first um it implies as

16:24 im force implies forcing something to be what it's not. So forcing things to try to be divine. So don't treat things as divine when only Allah is the only is the only divine being and don't say there are two gods or more. So he says and Allah he is the supreme name the name that shows he is the ultimate supreme king this being has said don't treat or don't take or don't make uh two gods and just using the word on its own should indicate like if you study theology and you study the proofs of the existence of god and that he's pre-eternal and everlasting which he must be and you know It's long

17:10 discussion that you can automatically deduce a number of other qualities that are essential to being divine and nothing else can have those qualities to be completely independent to be completely perfect to not need anyone or anything to not resemble anyone or anything. All of these things are the you know the domain of god they allahel is our creator. So there can't be more than one god. So then he says don't take on two gods and then he which means two gods. Then he says two he's repeated to really highlight this point and im some of the is talking about like worship in general because whether you're talking about two or 222 um we're talking about another being

17:57 alongside God and this other being cannot be God because Allah is the creator and this thing is created and only the creator can be God and just with uh just being who Allah is and when you study it when you understand it there can only be one pre-eternal divine being so don't make out as if there's more that's one way of understanding it im Ibure has this position that is talking about a number of the Arab tribes who started worshiping with the religion of uh the Zoroastrians uh not the Zoroastrians um Allah Muhammad the majus the majans who worshiped two gods right one

18:43 representing good and the other representing evil one representing light and the other representing darkness so Allah is saying here don't say that there are two gods and you know one for good and one for bad no there is no struggle like this between good and bad light and darkness it's just Allah and his will he chooses what he does uh with you know he has infinite knowledge and and wisdom and power so there is only just one god he says is and don't say that you know there are two gods because it's an impossibility. Allah highlights it and you can deduce so many proofs. It just the Quran does this. It hints at things and then the came and deduced a number of proofs from there. I mean just one simple thing if there was more than one god one key quality of divinity is to

19:30 create and you know even Arabs in their world view they they knew that Allah is uncreated and everything else is created. So how could that work? And then what we say is uh look they can't be two divine beings because um if they're both divine then they both have to be uncreated but we can leave that aside. They we know that the creator of the world around us has knowledge will power because we can understand that like he knew how to make a sunset. He knew how to make a you know um deers you know deer in these animals he knew how to make eyes and Allah subhanaa tala uh willed it and then he created it. subhanahu wa ta'ala. So um if there's another quotequote divine

20:16 being and he wants to do something like he wants to create zade right so one wants to create let's say on a spot he wants to create a mountain and the other wants to create a lake and they both have we know from the world around us that whoever is a god has a will that must be enforced cuz he makes things happen and a power that does it. So, who's going to who's going to win? Will there be a lake there? Will there be a mountain there? And you can say a mountain with a lake underneath it. Well, they've both lost because the supposition is that only one thing will be there. No compromise. And so, if it's a mountain, then the other one isn't all powerful, is not a god. If it's a lake, then the first one isn't all powerful. It's not it's not a god. Sorry. If it's a lake and not a mountain and well, you

21:04 could say, well, they're in agreement. Okay, if they're in agreement, let's go to the hypothetical. If they're in agreement, if one would decide to oppose, what would happen? We're back to the same thing. And so that's how it works. That is literally how it works. That there can only be one supreme divine being, right? And that's Allah. Allah. So then he says, if you're going to fear anyone, fear me. Not any other god, not any other concept of you know good and bad, light and dark, nothing only Allah can benefit and only Allah can remove harm or even harm. So is mentioned earlier in the sentence he could have said but no he says to restrict the meaning me alone

21:51 exclusively to Allahel even it sound reinforces. Yeah and is intense fear that's coupled with caution. It comes from reverence, right? Fear of something that you rear a lot. When a person feels fear and takes deliberate steps to avoid the consequences of their fear, you call that we ask Allah's protection. So then he says and to him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth and to him alone. So to him in both places means has this meaning of alone is everlasting devotion. Will you then fear other than Allah? So all the things that are in the

22:37 heavens, stars, planets, gas giants, black holes, every single thing they belong to him. He created them. They belong to him. So if they all belong to him and he created them, which one of them is is divine? The answer is none. How can they be woripped when they have a creator and their created beings are the existence could end any time? And so and then and everything on earth also belongs to him. So he says, "And so if everything on the heavens and earth, everything that exists belongs to him, how can anything else actually deserve worship if it's

23:24 just a created thing just like you? Are you going to go, you don't see a young child going and start worshiping the bully in high school who's, you know, 3 years older than him? Why? Just because he's older?" No. Right? That's not the case. So he says um so he says here there's a couple of interpretations but the strongest is is referring to absolute complete utter submissions and surrender that type of surrender belongs to Allah alone and it's Allah's right that no one disobys him that Allah obeys him he created us he you know and so even now Allah has a right to uh absolute total unchanging unwavering support and surrender.

24:10 Subhanahu wa ta'ala and that's just how it is. And so if that's the case then are they going to go start worshiping others after realizing this is the reality you begin to fear others and giving them your reverence and awe that belongs only to Allah yet no one else deserves your worship. Why would they? They haven't created you. They don't keep you alive. uh neither due to their greatness because none of them are are that great and you know to the point of deserving worship and for for no one equals in Allah in greatness and no due to any favor they've done for you and you can't say well oh this person did this for me so I'm going to start worshiping them and so he starts here with a rhetorical question are you going

24:56 to start fearing those beside Allah those other than Allah and use the supreme name this perfect super supreme excellent king you're going to start fearing him and start trying to avoid his punishment what about Allah right and these things haven't done anything for these people um so then he says whatever blessings you have from Allah uh you have are from Allah then whatever hardship touches you to him alone you cry for help. And this makes perfect sense here in this part because what are they doing? You know, he's saying that are

25:43 you going to fear someone besides Allah because someone might start worshiping another thing out of fear. So he deals with that and then he says um Allah he says and every single thing every single blessing that you have is different saying it becomes the addition of the mean says every single thing, every single thing that's a blessing. Whether it's your eyesight, the big general blessings, your eyesight, your life, um your well-being, it's all from Allah. Or if

26:29 you want to go deeper, you know, every single cell that and nerve and all the other processes, all the liquids and everything that's used in making you see, in making you hear, in making you blink, in in your sleep, all of that is all from Allah is from him. So why why are they even considering worshiping anyone or anything else else? So then he says then shockingly right moreover no sorry then moreover every single blessing you have is from you is from allahel so they recognize this and even if they don't then you know they can reflect on it and they'll come to realize there was one

27:15 supreme being who's created everything but then when harm touches you is physical harm and when it touches you not even comes at you full force like it does in He just touches you to him. You're out there calling out, "Oh Allah, oh Allah, please, I'm begging you. You know, you're calling out with a loud voice, desperate to get your problems fixed, desperate to have your pain removed. Best, desperate." And so he's saying to these people, "This is what you're like. Every single blessing you have is from Allah." And you think he doesn't deserve worship. And then, okay, when the blessings stop, when you realize there's a problem in your life, and you go and turn to him, what then? Have you forgotten that he deserves worship? Are you forgotten that you're going to him? You know, he deserves all that

28:03 worship. And then he says, uh, every blessing you have is from Allah. No one else deserves worship. And as all blessings come from him. So when even slight hardship strikes, people cry out to him for help. highlighted by the vers's emphasis on no it really highlights him like only him do you turn to because they know that no one else can help and no one else can harm in this situation and then he says then as soon as he removes the hardship from you so kasher to like remove a cl um a veil or you know

28:49 something covering something else when he removes the hardship from you a group of you associates others with their lord you worship either so he says so just the beginning indicates shock like what how can someone do this when he removes the harm from you immediately what is it suddenly this called absolutely suddenly unexpectedly there's a particular group of them who the disbelievers they start worshiping others besides Allah so they enjoy his blessings they don't show thanks and they don't feel ungrateful for that and then when Allah subhana wa ta'ala keeps sending his blessings down and if he sends down a bit of jalal a bit of majesty a bit of a trial then

29:34 what do they do these people they forget about all the good and all the ease and all the blessings and all the happiness they've seen and you know they're out there calling Allah subhana wa ta'ala please help us get out of this. We won't change we won't do anything. We'll change we'll be better. And then when Allah removes the harm, then suddenly they split into groups. And this one group there be him their loving lord. They are kiss um they are worshiping him over and over and over, right? They'll go and they'll kiss their statues and they'll go and kiss their idols and they'll do all of these things. But the Lord who creates them, the Lord who gives them all of these blessings, what do they do?

30:20 Nothing. They turn away from him. They start worshiping someone else. A betrayal is that's what it is. He deserves their worship. Why are they going and worshiping someone else suddenly as well? All of a sudden, as soon as the harm's gone, there they are. Right? Allah protect us and keep us uh always at his door as grateful obedient servants. Let's stop here and we'll continue from this point inshallah. am. Alhamdulillah.
